          The American Petroleum Institute’s authorized pressure vessel inspectorsmust have a broad knowledge base relating to maintenance, inspection, repair,and alteration of pressure vessels. The API Pressure Vessel InspectorCertification examination is designed to determine if individuals have such knowledge.

  • API 570[Piping Inspector]


        The American Petroleum Institute's authorized piping inspectors must have a broad knowledge base relating to maintenance, inspection, alteration and repair of in-service metallic piping systems. The API Piping Inspector Certification examination is designed to determine if applicants have such knowledge.
    The program benefits employers and the industry as a whole by helping to:
    • Provide a continued high level of safety through the use of inspectors specialized in process piping
    • Improve management control of process unit inspection, repair, alteration and rerating
    • Reduce the potential for inspection delays resulting from regulatory requirements
    API 570 certification is valid for a three-year term.

  • API 653[Above Ground Storage Tanks Inspector]

       The American Petroleum Institute initiated an Above Ground Storage Tanks Inspector Certification Program with the issuance of Supplement 1 to API 653, Tank Inspection, Repair, Alteration, and Reconstruction. The program was developed with the participation storage tank owner/users, and establishes a uniform national program that will assist state and local governments in above ground storage tank regulations. API 653 certification is valid for a three-year term

  • API 580[Risk Based Inspection Professional]


       Risked Based Inspection (RBI) has quickly become one of the industry’s premiere instruments and preferred methods of inspection.   • API 936[Refractory Quality Control Personnel]


      API’s 936 Refractory Quality Control Personnel must have knowledge of installation, inspection, testing and repair of refractory linings. This certification program raises the bar of competence for qualified personnel. It provides the industry with a prequalified set of individuals prepared for the job and readily identifies those who are qualified to do the job. API 936 certification provides a method for refractory personnel to demonstrate knowledge and experience to employers and clients. It provides industry-directed and industry-accepted credentials. It also gives certified personnel a means to improve their skills and strengthen their overall job performance. API 936 certification is valid for a three-year term.

  • API SIFE[Source Inspector Fixed Equipment]

       The Source Inspector Fixed Equipment certification program, developed in cooperation with industry experts, qualifies individuals performing the important task of supplier quality surveillance. The individual performing this task may be a full-time employee of an end-user or a contractor. The Source Inspector has been defined as the individual responsible for:
    • Examining fabricated and manufactured equipment and materials at the supplier facility
    • Confirming that the supplier’s quality management system is being utilized effectively The Source Inspector of Fixed Equipment focuses primarily on pressure containing and structural equipment including: vessels, columns/towers, heat exchangers, piping, valves, pressure relief devices, tubulars, and associated structural fabrications.
      Other advanced examination modules targeting the inspection practices on specific and/or complex commodities are envisioned for the future, such as Source Inspector - Rotating Equipment, and Source Inspector - Electrical Equipment and Instrumentation. The API SI-FE certification is valid for a three-year term.

  • API 1169[Pipeline Construction Inspector]

    The API 1169 Pipeline Inspector Certification program has been developed in cooperation with industry experts in order to establish an industry-wide credential for pipeline inspection professionals. This program will test applicant’s knowledge in relevant codes and standards necessary to perform inspection activities during construction of new onshore pipelines.
    Qualified individuals should be knowledgeable about:
    • General pipeline construction inspection
    • Inspector responsibilities
    • Personnel and general pipeline safety
    • Environmental and pollution control
    The API 1169 certification is valid for a three-year term.

    CSWIP provides internationally recognised, role-specific competence for people engaged in welding, joining, materials integrity and inspection in manufacturing, construction, operation or repair of high integrity structures, plant or machinery. CSWIP certification schemes are UKAS-accredited to ISO/IEC 17024, the international standard for personnel certification.

   Coatings industry and developed to meet the requirements of the BGAS-CSWIP scheme. Applicable to coatings applied to underground pipelines. Fifteen coatings systems are dealt with in total. This is an ideal course for pipeline inspectors who wish to become more versatile in the inspection field and also helps towards senior inspector approval grades at a later date.

    Level 1

    •Record and classify the results in terms of written criteria
    Level 2
    This level qualifies personnel to perform and direct NDT according to established or recognised procedures and has demonstrated competence to:
    •Choose the technique for the test method used
    •Perform and supervise the test
    •Interpret, evaluate and report results according to applicable standards, codes or specifications
    •Define the limitations of the testing method for which the qualification covers
    •Understand and transform NDT standards and specifications into practical testing instructions adapted to the actual working conditions
    Level 3
    This level qualifies personnel to direct any NDT operation for which they are certificated and:
    •Assume full responsibility for a test facility and staff
    •Establish and/or validate NDT instructions or procedures

PCN Courses

The PCN (Personnel Certification in Non-Destructive Testing) is an international scheme for the certification of NDT technicians and supervisors and meets BS EN ISO 9712 requirements.

Level 1
This level qualifies personnel to carry out NDT operations according to written instructions under the supervision of a Level 2 or Level 3 qualified individual. A Level 1 qualified individual has demonstrated competence to:
